Capturing Women’s Stories of Change: Sprockler in the POWER Project Evaluation, Timor-Leste

The evaluation of the POWER (Promotion of Women through Economic Empowerment and Rights) Project in Timor-Leste explored how it contributed to women’s economic empowerment, financial inclusion, livelihood opportunities and participation in household decision-making. Sprockler played an important role in capturing the experiences of 121 participants, bringing their individual stories of change combined with evidence from /household survey, focus group discussions, key informant interviews and project documentation. The findings highlighted how savings and lending groups, financial literacy, entrepreneurship training and gender-transformative activities helped women strengthen their livelihoods, confidence and economic agency. The evaluation also identified continuing challenges, particularly in market access, the sustainability of some producer groups and the inclusion of the most vulnerable. By connecting quantitative patterns with participants’ own accounts, Sprockler helped illuminate not only what changed, but also how participants experienced change and which factors contributed to it.
